Laura Zalenga

Fine art portrait

Laura Zalenga is a German conceptual photographer based in Rotterdam (The Netherlands). Born in 1990, she is popular for her approach of remaining alone in front of her camera. Her degree in architecture led to the very clear, minimalist visual language of her work, which often consists of self-portraits. Laura calls them portraits of “not-self” as she seeks to be read as an anonymous character rather than a specific person.

Said characters are often vulnerable and portrayed in situations trying to find a way to fit in. Zalenga believes in the healing power of self-portraiture, as well as the underrated depth of the genre, she gives talks and workshops on the subject.
She uses self-portraiture not only to address topics that are social taboos, but also in her work with clients for brands such as Adobe, Disney, Sony and United Nations. 2019 г.
Laura Zalenga has been selected as one of seven artists from around the world for the Adobe Creative Residency. During the Fellowship year, she developed the Beauty of Age project, for which she described and interviewed 35 seniors about their lives. The project became a successful book and travelling exhibition.
