Street Stories in Monochrome: A Photographer's Perspective

Fernando Pedro Salgado is a street photographer in black and white photography from Buenos Aires, Argentina, currently based in Prague. He finds inspiration in the quiet moments of everyday life and is drawn to the small, often overlooked details.

For Fernando, photography is a way to slow down in an increasingly fast-paced world – a way to observe, feel and connect. He pays attention to the subtle emotions, fleeting gestures, changing light and quiet “conversations” that unfold in public spaces. His images often capture intimate moments that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Working in monochrome allows him to focus on what he considers essential: emotion, atmosphere, contrast, form and mood. By removing the distraction of colour, he lets the moment speak for itself and the attention remains on the subject.

For Fernando, street photography is more than photography – it is a way of life. It shapes the way he moves through cities, how he observes and interacts with the world. Even a simple walk can turn into something interesting if one is attentive enough.

Through his lens, what seems ordinary begins to gain value and deserve attention.
